2000 2001 2002 Walter Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 HNHR 18 April 1240. Bird in the hole where we presumably missed the nest last year. Still stores here. 19 April 1050. Checked hole (#297): 7 eggs, fresh. (EHD: 28 April). Measured 3: 25.8×19.7; 26.1×19.6; 26.0×19.8. 2 May 830. Checked nut: 6 babies - 1 on way out + collected. No unhatched eggs. Kids ~ 3-4 do. Band ~ 19 May. 19 May 1200. Banded the 5 babies here. [illegible]. 5 Sept. No stores left. None in holes 2001 12 April 1245. Bird in usual hole (#297): 4 eggs, fresh. (EHD 22 April). 23 April 1530. 1 egg hatched, 3 to go. Band ~ 14 May. Measured 2 eggs: ① 24.9×19.5 ② 24.3×19.5. 14 May 1100. Banded the 3 kids (#3402-3404), 5 June 1130. Bird in (same) hole: 2 fresh eggs. Measured then: ① 25.2×20.5 ② 24.8×19.8. 11 June 1600. 5 eggs: ③ 25.7×20.4 ④ 26.3×19.5 ⑤ 25.3×20.3. Should hatch ~ 6/17. 2002 22 May Out of stores, best I can tell. Still roost in a hole. 6 June 830. I found a new hole in their normal Valley Oak That they roosted in last night so I opened it today: empty + relatively new.
