2001 2002 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Gate HNHR 4 May 1045. Checked the nest: 7 nestlings ~1 do +2 unhatched eggs, which I collected and will try to get tissue out of. Measured the 2 eggs: ② 25.8 × 20.3 (infertile? enbryo) ③ 24.8 × 19.0 (live chick - prob. would have died in the egg. Now #3371. 23 May 830. Banded and bled the 7 kids! 16 July 1400. Bird looking out of hole?! We checked it: empty. 20 July j3424 found stunned on the road. 6 October 0600. Finally ambushed someone here: getting j(8)3423 in the (double) hole and a ♀ NOBA in the high hole. So we got 1 one kid from the 2nd (missed!) nest. 2002 19 April 1410. Bird in high sycamore hole. 25 April Still stones here. But none in a hole. 22 May 1630. Bird in hole (same one w/ 2 entrances): 3 fresh eggs: Finally. Apparently laying. 3 June 1415. Checked the hole: 3 nestlings, ~2 da. (Band ~ 22 June). Final clutch was 3, by the way, so apparently only 1 ♀ here now? 13 June 9:00. Set up to catch the NOBA. 1200. Feeding, but very slowly. No NOBA. 1220. Got him! Now #3731. 21 June 1000. Banded the 3 kids. Not much in the way of stores seem to be left here.
