2002 2003 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Stromberg HNHR 12 June 1515. Checked hole: empty, even though there was a bird in it when I got there. Perhaps the new NOBA # did them in after all. There are stores still here, by the way. 4 July 945. Devin reported activity here so I checked the holes, and darn if there aren't 4 nice eggs in the middle hole! (Same one as used earlier.) Sheesh! 22 August No stores here, but lots of activity - could it be a power struggle (or maybe it's at Westgate?) 2003 18 Apr 1530. Bird in hole! (same middle one as in 2002) 21 Apr 1615. 4 freshish eggs ① 25.7 x 18.6 ② 23.8 x 18.6 ③ 24.3 x 18.5 ④ 22.8 x 18.2. 5 May 1330. Hole empty! Perhaps a casualty of the very rainy weather we've been having- The low hole (#1148) is packed full of acorns, by the way. 14 May 1400. Bird in hole (#5558 again): 3 eggs, pretty fresh. Still laying? ETD ~25 May. ① 26.8 x 19.5 ② 25.0 x 18.2 ③ 25.1 x 18.2. 27 May Joey climbed: 4 translucent eggs! Yet- a 3rd nest? Or another all infertile clutch? 4 June 1630. 4 kids, 2-3 do! Excellent. Band ~22 June, Stores left: yes. 21 June 1200. Banded two 4 kids. Stores: yes.
