2001 2002 2003 Waltford Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 42K HNH 27 June 1515. 2nd nest in same hole: 4 babies ~8 do. Band ~10 July. 13 July 1700. Banded the 1 kid (!) -> #3600! 2002 16 April 1030. Lots of acorns left. Bird in 2001 hole: 4 fresh eggs. Measured: ① 27.0×20.3 ② 25.4×19.2 ③ 24.9×19.1 ④ 25.7×19.2. Eggs marked. 29 April 1600. Checked nest: 3 babies, ~4 do, +1 unhatched egg, apparently infertile. Band ~16 May. Egg unhatched is: 26.5 × 19.0. (!?!) Are my measurements all screwed up? Doesn't seem likely that this is a 5th egg... 16 May 1800. Banded the 3 kids here. Still stored acorns. 22 August 1300. No stores left here. 2003 8 April Bird in hole. Stores: Yes. 1600. 4 fresh eggs: ① 27.4 × 19.5 ② 25.9 × 19.4 ③ 25.7 × 18.8 ④ 27.6 × 19.3. 20 April 1445. 1 hatching +3 unhatched eggs. It's day 0, it would appear! 26 April 1015. 1 baby ~7 do + 3 unhatched & undeveloped eggs. Bummer! This is hole #1349, by the way. Lots of stores here. Band ~10 May. 5 May 1345. Nest empty!
