2000 Walter Koenig Melampus fumicarous Y2K HNHR Jan. Still haven't figured out who they are, but there is a new group here in PHF storing in the small valley oak up on the hill (see map on back). 27 Apr! 1900. New hole in granary (lots of acorns still). 1 egg, marked #1. Hole #1349. 2 May 900. Checked hole: No eggs. Ambusher still set. 9 May 1000. Bird in the hole across the road in the CO snag! 22 May Still stores. Noone around, though. 14 June 1400. Checked the whole: 5 kids, 1-2 do. 23 June 1030 Finally caught one (?) of the 9♀ feeding at the nest. 1115. Got one of the 8♂, Definitely a 2nd ♀ here also (still NOBA). All for now. At least the nest can be watched. 26 June 1045. Got the 2nd ♂. Will go for the ♀. 1200! Missed the NOBA ♀! Blummer. Stuck a band on & bled the 5 kids. She'll have to wait. 29 June 550. Got her! Now 4 banded. But! Just before she fed, yet another NOBA ♂ came to the nest! So there's still 1 bird to go (and hopefully only 1 girl). 3 July 1130. Banded the 2 kids that are left (!) Both had moved into the big hole! Still a NOBA ♂ to go. 4 July Carrying up; will have to try and see who's roosting in the nest.
