2002 Waldo D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MPHF (18 April) Measured the eggs before consigning them to the incubator: ① 26.3 × 20.6 ② 25.2 × 19.6 ③ 24.9 × 19.1 ④ 25.7 × 19.7 ⑤ 24.5 × 19.7 ⑥ 24.9 × 19.5 ⑦ 24.6 × 19.3 ⑧ 25.7 × 19.4, 19 April Processed 2 of the eggs (3643-3644) but they weren't really very close to hatching. 23 April 3 of the remaining eggs hatched! Processed the lot, 29 April 1605. New nest in the (other) traditional tree: 4 eggs so far. 2 May 1200. Checked the nest: 9 eggs. Presumably this is the last day of egg-laying; EHD = 13 May. 6 May 1545. Peeped the nest: still 9 eggs, all normal best I could tell. 16 May 1315. 7 babies ~3 do + 1 unhatched egg. (Presumably 8 hatched.) Banded ~3 June, but I'd come back in 2-3 days and try to bleeed these guys just in case. 17 May 1940. Watched roosting: ? Res-DB/M #3027 roosted, definitely. No other action at The hole 22 May 1940. Again, it was definitely or-DB/M #3027 who roosted. Noone else even came to the hole. 24 May 1050. Kids are only 11 do, but just to be on the safe side we banded all 7 of them today. 3 June 1500. Checked the nest: 6 kids, which is how many presumably will fledge. The missing one: 1142-20095. 22 August Still lots of stored acorns here.
