Melanurpes formicivorus
Los Arbolitas
(27 April)
⑤ 25.8 x 20.0 ⑥ 25.5 x 20.0
Be careful: this could, I suppose, be CVGerande.
If not, it sure is a fast renest!
1 May
1930. Watched roosting. 1st [illegible] am/DB#2761
and Then 8m LBCk [def."M"] #2095 3217 came,
but then one (both? hope not) left noisily
just as it was getting quite dark. I
assume this was the ♂, leaving ♀2095 3217
for the night.
Looks like this may be a new group:
♂3216 + 3217 budding off with ♀3148
from CVGerande — so not "Larb"s
renest. We'll tentatively call this
group LARB2 (LAR2). (LRB2)
7 May
9315. Back here at LARB itself, there's a bird
in the same hole (the F-troop tree), with a
record-breaking 11 good eggs in it!!
They were a few days incubated. Unfortunately
I forgot my calipers so I couldn't measure pert.
Perhaps 3 ♀♀ laid here this time?
17 May
845. 8 babies ~2-3 do + 2 unhatched eggs
(1 clearly underdeveloped). Band ~ 4 June
3 June
915. Bird in new hole in granary! (Note: prior
rest failed for unknown reasons; see Joey's notes).
[Joey watched roosting on 28 May and found the nest
completely empty on 29 May].
4 June
104 1445. Opened hole (now tagged #1322): 12 eggs
