2000 2001 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Blomthree HNHR 19 April 1445. Even without their main granary, There are a fair number of stores here. None in a hole, though. 17 May 1430. Bird in the hole (same one in old nest tree). Eggs, freshish. (It's vaguely possible there [illegible] were more - I couldn't be sure; but I think I got them all. EHD ~ 27 May. Measured one: 25.9 x 19.2. Stores remaining here. 28 May 1030. Checked nest: 4 hatchlings + 9 unhatched (but pipped) egg that may still hatch. Band ~ 18 June. 16 June 1600. 4 kits in the nest, but 2 were long dead and extremely gross & stinky. We removed them and banded the 2 remaining kits, who are fine. Still stores here. 18 July Still stores. 25 Aug 700. Ambushed the new hole, but only got 82960 + a jun (3265). 30 August Still stores, by the way. 6 Sept. There's been a bird working on a new hole over at Dark Hollow, so tonight I ambushed there, catching 82947 from here roosting by himself. Interesting, but unfortunately not terribly illuminating. 2001 21 May 1145. Finally a nest (Hole #1320; not in the traditional tree) That is probably these guys. 3 fairly fresh eggs. (2-3 d.inc) ① 23.6 x 18.2 ② 24.9 x 18.8 ③ 24.8 x 18.9. 14 June 1435. Banded the 2 kits.
