2000 2001 2002- Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Blomone HNHR 9 May 900. Opened the new hole in the tree next to the granary: 1 runt egg (!) 17 May 9445. Checked the hole (woone in it): empty, Plenty of stores left here. 28 May 1015. 4 eggs, fresh. (#1) (measured a few days ago with Joey) still there. Measured one more: 26.0 × 20.2. Assuming we were here Thursday (25 May), they could still lay another egg. Otherwise, EHD ~ 8 June, 31 May 1000. Still 4 eggs. Should hatch 8 June. 9 June 1530. 4 kits, 3-4 do; 1 runtish but could make it. Band ~ 26 June. 26 June 1445. Banded the 3 kids. Still acorns here, 30 August Still some (old) stores. 2001 10 April 1100. Bird in 2000 nesthole (hole 112): 3 eggs, pretty fresh. 16 April 1000. Still 3 eggs. Measured one: 25.2 × 19.8. 20 April 1000. 3 babies, ~2 do. 8 May 1030. Banded the 3 babies, #3381-3383. 4 June 1230. Bird in same hole: 4 eggs, incubated. (①) 24.7 × 19.7 (②) 26.0 × 20.2 (③) 26.0 × 20.2 (④) 27.6 × 19.2. 29 June 1100. Banded the 3 kids. 2002- 15 April Still some stores, but none in any holes. 30 April 1500. Reopened the very old hole high up in the tree they've been using recently: 3 incubated eggs. Old hole OK but not cleaned out at all.
