2001 Waltard Poening Melanurpes fonicivorus Soto Springs HNHR 15 May 1440. 2 babies, ~3 do. Band ~2 June. For egg info on this group, see Hay-Blom notes 1 June 1500. Banded the 1 kid. There are some sticks in this tree, by the way. 2002 15 Apr 1345. ♂ in (2001) hole. No sounds. 7 May None in the hole. 31 May 1650. None in hole. 27 May 1000. Bird in hole! Checked it: 4 inc eggs! Egg 30 May. Measurements: ⓐ 24.7 × 26.4 ⓑ 25.3 × 20.6 ⓒ 24.2 × 26.3 ⓓ 25.0 × 20.6 (calipers checked). Could this be H-Blom's nest? 3 June 930. Hole empty; all quiet here. 2003 28 Apr See Hay-Blom notes; these are perhaps the guys with 4 kids up within Hay-Blom's (usual) territory? 8 May Yes - this is indeed Soto Springs, although I'm not sure who all the birds are. See map on back. In any case, I came up at 1700 today and all 4 kids were dead in the nest. I don't think they'd been dead more than a couple of days. Presumably another weather casualty at some level (it's still cold, rainy, + miserable out)! 8 June 1330. Bird in (1st) nest hole: 4 inc. eggs. ⓐ 27.7 × 19.7 ⓑ 26.7 × 19.6 ⓒ 26.9 × 19.2 ⓓ 27.8 × 19.8.
