2001 2002 Walter D Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Dipsy HNHR 5 Jan This is a pair storing in H-B's old nest tree, The big VO just over the fence as one reaches the 1st flat area up Haystack Hill. (See Map). In any case, I noticed a bird roosting in a new hole here so I opened it yesterday and ambushed this morning, netting only a 8 NOBA, now 83329. Presumably he's here with 9 2842, a 9 from CVZ. Lauryn says they are storing in this tree 16 April No sign of anything here lately, other than that there are still acorns stored in the tree. 29 April 1500. Bird in the old bluebird hole: 4 eggs; (peeped; I have to open it more to reach it)! Tagged the hole #1307. 30 April 1000. Opened the hole: 5 fresh eggs, Measured: ① 25.4 x 19.0 ② 24.9 x 18.9 ③ 25.3 x 19.3 ④ 25.2 x 19.6 ⑤ 24.7 x 18.7 15 May 1400. 3 6abcies a good 5 days old. Banded ~ 31 May. 24 May 1015. Still 3 6abcies looking good. 1300. Banded the 3 kids. Still stores. 2002 24 April 800. 2 birds eating catkins in the VO on HNHR side just down Haystack from Dipsy tree: ①♂ LG-W(N)/LG-W(N) Da? /M #3588 and ②♀ Red/Red [3584]. ③♂ NOBA also here in tree. 7 May No sign of anyone here this year so far. 27 May 945. Birds in the tree (2?). None in a hole, though.
