Melanerpes formicivorus
Middle Long Field
HNHR
22 Nov. Among the various new groups this fall (!),
several of which are down in this area, is
"Middle Long Field", which is along the creek
across from 1800, more or less. One of The
valley oaks has several roost holes, and this
morning I caught 2 birds (18,19) in one of
them. This is not The whole group, unfortunately,
but it's a start. They do have some acorns in
this tree also, by the way.

2 June 1200. Lindsay found a nest with old babies here,
almost certainly "MLFI"; hole is now #5814,
low in tree facing 1800. Banded the 4 kids.
Try to ambush tonight, just in case I can get
The NOBA 6?
17 June Apparently MLF2 snuck a nest on us.
Bummer. Must find hole!
21 June 430. Ambushed The MLF1 hole, nabbing
83765, 43766, and 3 of The kids. Perhaps
no NOBA 8" after all / anymore, unless Joey
caught him (with a NOBA 4?) last night?
(see "Long Field" notes.)
