2003 Walter D Koening Melanerpes formicivorus LODD (16April) only 8 3198 was at The nest The vast majority of The time. 1130. I give up (I've been here 3 hrs.) I'm going to take the eggs, and have to wait for The 2nd nest to get The 8. 17April 1115. Took the eggs. One has a small puncture, but all of Them look clear and undeveloped. Possibly all are infertile anyway? We'll see, I guess. Otherwise, This is exp#3. 26April Finally gave up incubating The eggs, none of which have developed at all! May 7 1340. Bort in same hole: 4 fresh eggs (let's try again!). ① 27.3 x 20.2 ② 26.5 x 19.5 ③ 26.2 x 19.4 ④ 26.8 x 20.0. 9 May 1430. Got the 8, finally! Banded her as #3797 and took the eggs again. (Hopefully They're fertile this time.) 28 May 1000. Checked hole (tag #1302): 5 eggs, incubated (!) Finally - a clutch That's not a bunch of duds. 7 June 610. Chucked hole: 4 kids, a good 5-6 do. Band ~ 22 June. 21 June 500. Banded and bled The 4 kids. 29 Sept There are acorns stored here, at least some of which are fresh!
