2000 2001 Waltford Keenig Melanerpes formicivorus Central Canyon HNHR 23 April 1600. New hole! Very low in the dead tree, Babies! Young. Ebanding D ~ 11 May. Need to open the hole. 24 April 1100. 3 babies ~ 10 do! Band 5 May. Hole Tagged 1337 (HNHR tag) Lots of acorns still here. 4 May 1245. Banded + bled the 3 kids. Plenty of stores still. 12 May 430. Went and caught the bird roosting in the rest, who was 93078, The helper 8!!! 6 June 1000. Checked the nest, opening it a tad more so I could reach everything (which I'm not sure I did last time): 4 kids, 3-4 do, + 1 pipped but unhatched egg. Thus, clutch size was apparently 5. Band ~ 23 June. 23 June 1230. Banded the 4 kids in the 2nd nest. 8 Sept. Still stores here. Lots, in fact, but they don't appear to be new. 2001 26 March 1420. Came to check the low hole (see 23 April 2000 above) but instead there was a bird in the hole above it (#287). I checked it, but it was empty. Lots of stores here, though. 9 April 1215. 8 in same hole (#287). Checked: 5 fresh eggs. 20 April 930. Checked hole: 3 babies (no eggs); ~ 2 do. 8 May 1100. Banded the 1 remaining chick (#3384). 24 May 800. Bird in low hole; checked it: empty but nice. 3 June 815.
