8 Mammals: Thirteen mammals of four species were recorded in the grid area. Un- doubtedly the heavy seas encountered during the survey were responsible for seeing somewhat fewer mammals than normal. On 17 December a bull (large male) Guadalupe Fur Seal (Arctocephalus townsendi) was observed at 33°-26'N, 122°-13'W. This represents the first pelagic sight record away from Isla Guadalupe. It is interesting and possibly significant that this is about the same latitude as San Nicho- las Island where George Bartholemew recorded a male Arctocephalus in 1949.
