However, it is pertinent that during this survey there was marked variation in densities of the northern and southern areas of the grid. For instance, the total average density for the northern third of the grid was 2.17 birds per linear mile as opposed to 0.86 birds per linear mile for the southern third. The reasons for this variation are not explained.
