1220 Dolphin 8 SE Passing apparit clinedion from ship - tight group - arcing
only halfway out of water, except once when one
leaped completely clear and fell back in on his right
side. This one had white belly in approximate pattern
of delphinus. Otherwise, all black above.
Between 1200-1300, following species seen, though complete
tally of numbers was not kept

Wh-rudded St. Petrel - 1
5/8 Shearwater - 1 (before 1240) all travelling

Sterna - size and flight of Common/Arctic/Forster type -
Some with black caps - others with only
black hindcrown, nape and cheeks remaining -
None seen with black eyemark of winter Forster.
Some with noticeably long outer tail feathers,
others with straight cut tails. Bill color generally
not seen, but not bright red or yellow.

Probably Sooty in size & flight, but too distant in sun
to be sure underparts weren't pale.
Not a flock
Innum - alone - not really more "smudgy" than others -
passed very close to ship, finally crossing bow -
White forehead, complete dark band across hindcrown
and nape - eye-to-eye. Distinct dark mark along upper
leading edge of proximal third of wing. (This
usually considered diagnostic for Innum Common).
Bill very dark reddish at basal 2/3's, outer 1/3 blade.
Flushed from water - no wing mark as above, but white
forecrown.
