Hastings Reservation 3 January A sample of 30 acorns taken (with great difficulty - those things are really wedged in here.) from the granary. 20 February 1100. Watching. 1125. A Scrub Jay is here in the granary eating an acorn which he's stolen. 1135. 1 bird finally appears: ①♂DB/WN-LB#252 and a 2nd is calling nearby. 1225. ②♀ub. Several birds are just down the hill a short ways in the Live Oaks, no doubt sapsucking. 1230. Leaving. Too slow. Counted stores: 647. 12 March 1515. Returning the hide, I'm going to sit and watch for a spell. 1545. 2♂♂ and a ♀ over in sycamore by '77 nest, only ①♀WN/B1-Red#369 identified. Now flying down to the live oak below the granary. 1550. ②♂LG+P/LG#370 to granary to get part of an acorn. ③♀369 here now also eating an acorn. ③♀ub here also. ④♂LB/WN-DP#234. 1555. I briefly saw a ♂ sapsucking in the live oak below the granary. 1620. ⑤♂MDA#319 and ⑥♂DB-Or/DB-Or#424. Several others here also sitting or EA. 1645. Leaving. No other returnees. Group definitely has stores. 5 April 1115. Counted stores: 232. None seen anywhere in the vicinity. 17 April 1000. 1 bird flushed from the granary, but nobody seen in any of the local holes. Nobody in Buckeye Hill holes either. 23 April 1700. None at all seen on the Red Hill side of things. Ditto Buckeye-
