Melanerpes formicivorus
Hastings Reservation (and very near vicinity), Monterey Co., Calif.
(26 April) but no noises), and Blomone (noises still - see Blomone notes).
Things may be picking up, I daresay.
27 April Nobody seen in holes at Near Lambert today.
3 May 98339 and 343, originally banded in the Thanksgiving
Resolution on Poison Oak Hill, are down at a revolution at
Finch today. See Finch notes.
Over at Near Lambert and Bar-b-g I saw no birds in
any of the holes.
5 May Walked back through Blomquist's, seeing none in any
likely holes at Gazebo or Bloutwo but hearing (I think)
babies still at Blamone.
6 May 9435 (banded at the revolution at Plaque in April) seen
intruding at School Hill this morning.
7 May Walked back past Gazebo and Bloutwo, but found no birds in
likely holes.
11 May Walked down Poison Oak Hill this afternoon after searching
with John Davis for Cvent Springs. I passed the 3 nests from
last year plus a little extra, but found no sign of any
nests or babies.
21 May 1580. At Gazebo there's a low hole about 2.5m off the ground
where I'd been told a bird was flushing. So I came over, sure
enough a bird flushed, I opened the hole, but it is merely
being built and has no eggs or even really a decent bottom
as yet.
28 May 1130. No sign of a nest at Near Lambert.
2 June Walked up the spine of Poison Oak Hill this morning,
passing by all the groups and holes that I know of.
