1978 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Bianca Hastings Reservation (24 June) 90S. Giving up. Taint nothing going on here at the moment. 25 June Purge: 3140. Poor old Ms. Bianca was last seen on 13 March, and was missed on subsequent passes and on the watch of 29 May → Disappeared abt. 21 April 1978 ± 1 month. Definitely the end of an era. Taint going to be another like him for many a year. ♂ 217. Last seen 23 Oct 1977, missed on the otherwise complete watch of 14 Feb. 1978 → Dis. Abt. 18 Dec. 1977 ± 1 month. 3 July 1930. Flushed 2 birds from 2 roost holes here; probably close to the whole group. 4 July 800. Watching. 840. 2 birds over in the lower corner now. 900. Giving up. 6 July 620. Watching. 625. 2 birds here. ♂ub just flew up, but was possibly chased (or chased someone else). 645. ♂ub again, this time looking rather more at home. 700 and already things are clearly hopeless here. I ought to try in the evening or else really early - about 545 or thereabouts 810. ♂412 seen at UA2 - see notes. 7 July 615. After checking out the main area and finding nothing as usual I walked down a little on the far side toward Jimmy's corral.
