1978 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Arnold 2 Hastings Reservation 5 November 1630. At least 4-5 birds flushed from this area towards Black Oak and/or possibly Bianca. One was seen as ?M/DB?, possibly j455 from Black Oak but I'm not sure. No stores or any sign of a group here, however. 30 November Though 8126 was seen [illegible] on 4 July, for all intensive purposes this territory was abandoned- certainly by the 299 - between 28 May and 3 July. (Note that 8126 was seen at A3 on 4 July). -> Abandoned about 15 June ± 2 wks. This territory is now empty. Note that it apparently was abandoned due to reproductive failure rather than to Acorn Crop failure. If 8126 is still around, I suspect that he is at A3. 29 December A bird was sitting in the perch tree when I walked by here this afternoon.
