1978 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes fomincivorus Upper Arnold 2 Hastings Reservation. 3 July 1920. Bird(s) roosting in that hole again. About time to watch and see if they're A3 birds after all. 4 July 920. Flushed one bird from this area. None in the hole. 6 July 715. Watching. 728. Directly below here in the canyon ♀️wd/db#(28) (A3) is hawking. Otherwise no sign of anyone here. 733. Now? M/LP[#289?](A3) Hawking down below. 736. Yes. Both ♀️289 and ♀️290 (for sure) showed up atop the granary briefly, then flew down below the next tree where 3-4 birds are now hawking. 750. 5-6 birds now. ♀️ Mawer/LP. Rd# 207. 800. ♂️wd/db/wm[#286?] hawking down here now. In any case, A3 seems to account for birds being here; this is merely part of their territory for now, and the birds roosting here are no doubt A3 birds. 806. Got a good look at the ♂️ above - is ♂️wd/db/wm#412 (Bianca) He's not getting chased but is being looked at oddly by the A3 birds. Right now he's exploring the next tree 815. Leaving. 16 July 1520. Flushed 1 bird from the area, but none in any holes. 15 October No stores here or any sign of a group. 5 November One bird sitting around near here, but no stores or group.
