Koenig Melanerpes fomicivorus KeepOut Hastings Reservation 14 February The limb with the nest holes has fallen within the last 5 weeks, taking with it the lower nest hole (used) but leaving the upper hole. No birds were seen. There are also no stones left, as far as I can tell. Obviously, it's possible that this group won't (hasn't) make it through the winter either. 17 February 18 February 1315. After seeing a bird flycatch near here I walked over and discovered 3^LP/LP #118! The group lives! 1325. 3^118 now sitting atop the granary. 13 March 1320. 3^118 seen along the fence in the sap tree greedily scarfing down the fresh cale buds. No sign of the ♀. 18 April 1530. Nobody at all seen here in passing. 31 April 1300. At least 2 birds are here, making more noise than the [former?] resident ever do. (One garricked several times). 1345. A ♀ here, but I doubt it's old 3^109. May not even have been banded. Nothing for sure, however. 27 April 1020. Watching here and at BigTree from hide. 1628. Somebody's calling from back here. 1642. At least one bird in the sap tree here sapsucking. 1100. There was a flurry of calls and then 3-4 birds were in the sap tree, inc. 9^ub. Maybe these are BigTree birds taking this over temporarily again? 1115. Now ① 3^LP/LP #114 (Lamburt) sapsucking. Apparently these are Lamburt birds down here!
