Melanerpes formicivorus
Black Oak
Hastings Reservation
(9 December)
1050. 03 only #102 up in the perch area.
1056. 03 #102 just chased a Nuthatch from the central area.
1150. 03 #102 still up in perch area alone. None else seen as yet.
1215. Still nothing but #102. Leaving, looks bad for the kits.
26 December Purge: j455 456 457 458 459. All 5 of these were last seen on 29 July. Inexplicably all had apparently disappeared en masse by about 9 November (at least), thus Dis. about 19 September ± 1 month
In addition, both #426 (previously dropped but ok)
and #321 have moved to Bianca. #426 was last seen in May, #321 was last seen here on 15 October; neither were seen at Bianca on 28 September (when I ambushed). I thus assume they moved together following 15 Oct. and before 10 December when they were seen at Bianca: Moved to watched group about 12 Nov. ± 1 month.
29 December 1500. A bird in the granary while I was counting stores was ♀ Red / M most likely #320 (I would like to confirm this - possibly the bands were messed up since only the red stood out [like thus could have been #427] but I'm pretty sure this was her).
Stores: 589. In central area.
