Went up to confirm the set size only to discover that the kits have hatched already! Without suitable equipment I retreated immediately. 1 June 1845. Went up and checked the babies, of whom all 4 are doing fine 2 June 1830. watching. Flushed bird from nest. 1910. 8 slipped back in the hole. Leaving. 4 June 1730. Watching. 1745. ①♂, ①♀, ①M #86 with food in tree 1. 1815. ♂ went in the nest and fed the babies. 1845. Once again, the pace here is a bit too slow for my taste. Another watch, preferably during the day, will have to be made. 11 June 1435. Watching. ♂ in nest hole. 1500. ①♂, ①♀, ①M #86 in storage area. 2nd ♂ just went in the nest. 1510. ②♀ #402 scarfing down an acorn atop tree 1. 1545. Leaving. Very slow here. ③♂ Turn-Rets, w/o-2 #49 here after all—all 3 birds together in tree 1 now. Okay take. Leaving. 18 June 1130. Went up and banded the babies, 3 of whom made it (and were fat!); they are #452, 453, and 454. There are definitely stores remaining here. 28 June 1850. Counted stores: Tree 2 223? 288 Tree 1: 65 8 July A baby was in the hole looking out as I passed. 14 July 1030. ①♂ #419 seen up here while doing vegy transects. ①♀ #454 seen down at 1500.
