Melanerpes formicivorus
Horsetail Hastings Reservation
2 September This afternoon Ron Munne and I hoisted up the first section
of "enriched" Sycamore granary here alongside the crossings on
the edge of Haystack Hill (600 holes, section formerly of Road 1).
This area has often held isolated individuals of pairs temporarily,
but I've never known it to be within anybody's territory.
3 September We added a 2nd section this morning with an additional
620 holes for a total now of 1220.
4 September 1330. Added another small piece of sycamore granary with
100 holes for a total of 1330.
8 September 1430. Noone seen here in passing.
10 September 1310. 2 birds were in the vicinity here- on the edge of the field
toward Gate and up on the side of Haystack Hill. Both birds
flew up Haystack a ways. Neither were closer than 60m from
the granary, but they certainly were close enough to
probably know it's there.
21 September Noone here this afternoon.
