1978 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MacRoberts Hastings Reservation (11 June) Flew way off to (at least) the side of Watertank Hill. Nothing else here, however. 18 June 1720. A bird seen flying over around here from Blouquist. 19 June 945. Sat back here for 15 minutes, watching ♀?/♂? #191 hawking in the area. The group lives. 29 August 1510. Nobody seen here in passing. 8 October 1615. Not unexpectedly, there are no stores here, no sign of any birds, and, I fear, the group is clearly defunct. My guess is that there aren't more than 300-400 usable holes here anymore. 3 November No sign of anything here. 30 November Purge: ♀?ub, ♀?191. I unfortunately do not have a good idea of what happened here. ♀?191 was last seen on 19 June (surprisingly), thus I presume that the group was intact through the spring and early summer. My guess, however, is that they abandoned early - in August - rather than late. Thus, I will have both of them abandon on 15 Aug ± 1 month. Presently this territory is empty (and is likely to remain so).
