EAC 20 (Non-Grid Portion) Non-Grid Sooty Shearwaters, Pink-footed Shearwaters, and Black Petrels continue to be common outside the Grid and scarce or absent in the Grid area. Brown Pelican and Cormorants are always to be found around the Channel Islands but never are seen in pelagic environments. Western Gulls were abundant in the Santa Barbara channel. Non-Grid observations en route from Long Beach to the Grid are summarized in Table 8. Non-Grid observations were limited after departure from the Grid on 16 August (refer to original sighting logs).
