1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Plague Hastings Reservation 13 January Took a sample of 40 acorns from Plague tree and then counted stores: Plague: 1220 2° tree: 93 Tel. pol: ~40 1333 14 January 1645. ♀157 in 2° tree. 17 January 1330. ♂rad/or#22 and [a] ♀ over in the trees by the upper barn. 1350. ♂22 in Plague tree; also ♀B-w.*157 eating an acorn. Still no sign of a 3rd bird. 24 January 1220. 3 birds flushed from Plague together. 26 January 1720. There are 3 birds sitting here quietly about to roost: 1 atop Plague, a 2nd atop the 2° tree, and a 3rd in the row of trees by the upper barn. 28 January 1130. ♂22 hawking from top of Plague. 14 February 930. Several birds, including possibly an intruder, in the 2° tree. By the time I stopped to look 3 remained, who were the banded ♂(22) and ♀(157) plus [the] unbanded ♂? 6 March 3 woodpeckers seen together by upper barn.
