18 December Counted stores: Old tree: 69
Blue Oaks: 155
Main tree: 15 (the last remaining storage limb
in this tree has recently fallen, entailing a loss of x200 stored
acorns and about 400 holes. The entire tree has about 150 holes
left to its name. A sample of 100 acorns was taken from the fallen
limb.)
Black Oak: 35
"New" area: 248
Other Valley Oak: 0
Miss Bianca (#140) and several other birds were in the area.
31 December More losses: the "Old tree," with only 69 acorns as of
18 December but perhaps as many as 500 holes still
functional, fell entirely within the last 2 weeks.
A ♀ was in a hole in the Valley Oak nest tree (below the
former '76 nest hole, now defunct), as I surveyed the rest
of the area.
