1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Arnold 2 Hastings Reservation (14 November) 1037. Oops! Just when I think everything's settled I get ♀B/R-W-R #204 from A3. Nonetheless, the other 4 88 seem to really live here; this guy (even though he's here hawking from the Blue Oak) is still pretty well connected with A3 (this may be changing for all I know, however). 1040. Leaving. 1050. Something seems odd about the stores here: as far as I can tell there aren't any in the Valley Oak, and hardly enough for 5 birds in the Blue Oak... 26 November Add 83, 123, 126, and (for now at least) 121 (who might be returning to A3 rather than following his colleagues here); moved here as adults 25 September. 18 December Flushed 2 birds as I came over to count stores, but they only have about 65 acorns here and I would be surprised if they make it through the winter. 31 December Best I can tell, the stores are essentially depleted here (I couldn't come up with any that were definitely intact). I didn't see any birds here either. My guess is that this group will shortly disband, if it hasn't done so already.
