1977. Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold 3 Hastings Reservation June (17) compared to about 28 in 1975 and even 19 or so last year! 940. Counted stores: N fork 248 M fork 346 S fork 501 A goodly amount lower since last I counted fixture! 30 July 1800. A banded ♂ flew from the small tree where I always put the hide over toward LA2. 20 August 1210. ♀♀ 289 and 290 over at UA2. (!) 1 September ♀ Maure/UP #207 seen by PLW at the Arnold Spring. 24 September 1200. Counted stores: N fork: 66 M fork: 44 S fork: 97 207. Amazingly low. Many are new, but I don't think they ever van out completely. No birds were seen, except for ♀290 over at UA2 again. 2 October ♂♂122 and 204 at Lower Arnold 2, where they seem to have moved to! (6) ♂ Scottish furn/Blik-am #120. 1625. (7) ♂ Wh/Blue - #126. This character is sure getting around! I saw him last week at LA2 (he had previously moved to UA2 last spring). He's here now along with (8) ♂ B/R-W-R #204 (who was also at LA2 last week!) pecking at an acorn. (9) ♂ 204 is here regularly, but ♂126 hasn't been seen again so far. (11)5. Back from checking nuts. (12)5. Being seen regularly are ♂204, ♀♀ 208, 289, 290. ♀128 seen again. ♂120 seen again, too.
