1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold 3 Hastings Reservation (19 April) 1015. (①♀ g41/db, #128) flew over to BlueOak perch tree (between granary and nest tree) and began sapsucking. 1020. Now (②♂ ir-w/n/b/1k-1a, #120) sapsucking in same area. 1032. #128 preening in granary. 2 other birds, both banded, here also. 1046. [illegible] (③♂ M/LBlue LBlue/Red-?) #204 now sapsucking. 1050. (④♀ M/O5, #289) sapsucking. 1100. (⑤♀ DB-w/n/w)/DB #290 over in sap tree eating oak buds. 1130. ♀ landed at '75-'76 nest hole briefly. 1140. Pretty fair looks at 3 more birds in the granary together: (⑥♂ub) (⑦♂ DBlue/light #123), and (⑧♀ub). 1200. ♂ at the nest hole again. Birds are occasionally flying away toward UA2, where I am now going to more. There is a slow, steady stream of birds in and around here; there are even no doubt a few more than I saw. (I suspect that a couple may be at UA2). 1330. #128 at nest hole as I walked by. 24 April 1400. Nobody here, but lots of birds over at UA2 are certainly from this group. See UA2 notes. 26 April See UA2 notes. Nobody in holes here. [4♂88, inc.♂122 at UA2] 28 April 1530. Nothing seen in passing. 29 April 1500. " " " " 3 May 1425. " " " ", though 2+ birds over the knoll on Lamberts (see map on back) may very well have been A3 birds. 4 May 1930. Bird in '75/'76 nest hole. Could be it, folks. 5 May 1730. None in any holes.
