Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Lambert Hastings Reservation 15January Counted stores and took a sample of 160 acorns: Lam FT: 1581 (50 taken) Hast FT: 1814 (45 taken) Nest : 180 (5 " ) VO : 184 3759 26January 1040.Watching. 1050. ①♀ub. 110S. ①♂DBlue-? / yellow-? #116. ③♂[P/P]#114. 111S. ④♂Or/?-Or-? #284 . Also a tail-spotted, dark-eyed ♀, very possibly the other 1st-yr. bird. ⑤♂ Or/DBlue #202 for sure. 115S. ♂M / Red- again probably 284. 1158.These birds are doing some sap-sucking now. 1210. It's a little too dark (because of the clouds) to continue watching. In any case, I pretty much saw everybody, including most likely #283 even though I never got bands from here 9February Purge: #201. Last seen 15June 1976, gone by 1July: →Disappeared about 23June ± [weeks]. This bird disappeared just after [her?] young fledged about 12June, for completely unknown reasons. 10March Counted stores: Lam FT: 885 Hast FT: 1698 NestT: 71 VO: 159 2813 7April 945. Several birds here: ①♀orange, [#283?] 95S. ①♀Or/black#283 just chased a bird away from the nest area. 1001. ♀ub intruder chased out by #283 from nest tree.
