Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Keep Out Nest Record Hastings Reservation 7 April 945 ♂ first seen in nest hole 26 April 1215 Hole opened: 3 eggs, all fresh (=translucent) ① 24.8 × 18.8 ② 25.1 × 19.1 ③ 26.1 × 19.2 28 April 1645 Still 3 eggs; bird incubating. Egg 2, barely pipped, found below nest (see notes). Hatching has occurred in others (rasps heard.) [Day 0] 6 May 1540. 11 May 1200 Nothing left. Nest failed, unsur- priously, sometime between 6-10 May, certainly as a result of the weather (see Journal).
