Melanerpes formicivorus
Arnold 1 Hastings Reservation

930. Finally decided that I had to check the nest, and
thus found 4 babies, who were left unmeasured, but whose
eyes were fully opened and whose 1º were just barely
popping thru their sheathes, thus indicating that they
are about 13 or so days old, and thus that they should be
banded on 15 July or thereabouts.
9 July
1135. Pam saw ♂ un/Down(n)#267 at the Arnold Spring.
14 July
1730. Nest failed. Only 1 baby was inside the hole,
and he was well gone. Weight was 42gm.;
Wing length 67mm
Culmen - 19.4 mm
Length of 6th P 40mm
Boo. Maybe next year. (This indicates that this last survivor
was about in day 18 when he died).

♂267 seen at Arnold Spring this morning at Arnold Spring.
(by P.L.Williams). P.L.Williams is very cute.

♂ M/Blz #266 seen by Pam at the spring.
Discovered some problems in the main list. I'm not

still #1 man here. Accordingly, I feel he should be considered
the ♂ here since July 1972, who is Presumed banded 20 June '75.
♂266. The group here obvious had some strange+unusual
shakeups between May '75 and early '76. For philosophical
reasons I feel that ♂266 and 267, both caught together
(probably on the nest) in May 1976, most likely
