Koenig 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Black Oak Hastings Reservation (13 April) In any case, activity here is only intermittently intense, and chasing even among adjacent ♀♀ is relatively rare. 1150. ♂#102 here after all. Still lots of ub♀♀, but the continued presence of all 3♂♂ at least makes everything somewhat clearer. 1400. Counted stores: Central area: 1353 Side: 145 / 1498 Only one big burst of birds/fighting/activity was seen, down in the far corner by Bianca. I was going to put up a net, but it was way too windy. 17 April 910. There is 1-2 ub♂♀ up in the forest perch area. No calling going on here at the moment. 915. 2♂♀ in forest area; calling now in side storage area. There are ≥3 more birds there. 955. An ub♂ and ♂102 in forest perch area together. 1000. ♀ Red-Lg/M #320 is here, up with ♂102 and ♀ub. 1010. 3ub eating acorn in side area. 1020. A banded ♂ karit-cutting over toward Bianca is ♂or/♀ Left WS, apparently #217 from Bianca. There are now other birds over there. 1040. Most of the birds are now over where ♂217 had been, perhaps clearing up this minor border dispute. 1042. An ub♂ and ♀ at the Black Oak roost hole down the N slope. 1050. Now 4 birds at the hole: ♂102, who went in, ♂ub, and 2 ub♀♀. 1055. 2ub♀♀ and an ub♂ at the hole now. 1100. Leaving. There are, apparently, 6 birds here:
