1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill (31 August) which had good acorns, but it had about 50 (only 2 of which were new green ones) thereby qualifying this group as having not run out of acorns this year. 4 September ♀193 seen at 1800. See 1800 notes. 8 October 1645. Up here for a brief check. 1651.①♀M/Red #191. 1700. Certainly nothing obviously spectacular going on. Going to check the nest hole. 15 October 950. Watching. 1003.①♂yel/Red #402. ②♂wh-DB/Lg #256. ③♀w-red/w-r #49. ④♂P/M #86. ④402 definitely still ♂-type showing no hint of planning a change. 1030.③♀or/Red #191. 1140. Some intruder just got chased out. 1150. Leaving. These 5 birds seem like it - I saw them all several times with no trace of any others hanging around. No stores or birds seen in passing at School Hill "B". 1320. ♂402 possibly seen at Pump (see Pump notes). 17 October See 1800 notes for a discussion of ♀193, who is being moved down there as of 21 August. 19 November 925. Watching. Still cold ☁️ out here but sunny. 930.①♀M/Red #191. 934. 1-2 intruders landed and were immediately chased away. ②♀R-w #419. ③♂P/M #86 also in granary. ④♂wh-DB/ #256. 1020. All 4 adults back; still no sign of the babies. 1030. ⑤♂yel/Red #402 just flew in from the top of the field (⬆️ near S.H."B") 1100. Leaving. All adults still here storing, etc. ♂399 is gone (though he conceivably could have gone with ♂88 down to 1500),
