1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill Hastings Reservation 18 March 1715. Came up to check for wing-streakered birds after finding 1500 deserted. Did see several birds, in any case, including ①♀256 and ②♂ub (slight tail spotting) both up at the east edge. Also ③♂Blue Yel #296. 19 March 1100. Watching. 1140. Gave up. Several birds came to the west edge of the field, but my attempt to see them failed. On the way down I found several ⅓ of the way down; at one point I also saw an AW fly past me down toward 1500, where I'm now headed. 4 April All 3♀ of the 1st-year birds down at 1500 (still? again?). 14 April 1800. ①DBRW#86 plus 4-5 others in the vicinity. Counted stores: Tree 1: 303 Tree 2: 1212 √ 1515 18 April 1645. 1 bird near old unused granary along the path down to Long Field. Otherwise no birds in/out of holes up on School Hill 30 April See Y notes. All 3 1st-yr birds there. 21 April 1115. Nobody seen in a brief check of the Field and the nearby holes that I'm aware of. 25 April 915. Watching. 922. ①♂DBRW#86. also a ♀ and a 2nd♂ at least. 940. ⑧86 and ②♀ub atop tree 1. 950. ③♂WDB/Yel #256. 1030. ⑧86 landed briefly at the roost hole in the lower valley (Ab (where the screen still is). There may very well be only these 3 birds here. 1045. All 3 birds together atop tree 1; ⑧86 flew to '76 nest
