Road 3
Hastings Reservation
13 January Took a sample of 65 or so acorns, mostly from a small dead
limb I felled in the process of getting up. Saw ♂#68 and
♀#269 when I arrived, working stores.
14 January Counted stores: Valley Oak: 1043
Sycamore: 947
15 February 1030. Watching. ♂ or /♀ #68 here. ♂ /♀#184 in perch
sycamore.
1050. ♂/♀#269 karit-cutting over across the creek over
something:
1100. ♂DS/4K-LB #265 now up in the sycamore. C'est tout.
8 March 1230. Counted stores: Valley Oak: 623
Sycamore: 838
As far as I could tell the birds were up the side of Poison Oak
Hill, probably sapsucking in some Live Oaks.
6 April 930. All 4 birds here hawking; all 4 seen well to very
well; est ♂184, ♂#68, and ♀#265.
Counted stores: Valley Oak: 553

Stores have not really diminished noticeably since March.
18 April 1315. All quiet here; no birds seen in/out of holes.
21 April 1615. 3 birds near/in the new low hole in the sycamore; it
could be it.
22 April 1700. None at the hole today.
24 April 1230. A bird at the hole.
26 April 1530-1600. 2 birds flushed from the nest tree when I arrived
but none returned by 1600.
