1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 Hastings Reservation. (13 July) 1600. Here we go: $354 feeding @ j/m/blk-yel #408. 1630. (1)♀ or -yel #69 in there sapsucking along with none other than (2)♀ R-W-R/cp #180. 1639. ♀ub just silently displaced an intruder from the granary. 1650. Leaving. A good watch (12/13), and given the general visibility of everyone I suspect that I have no reason to believe that the 13th (♂294) was hiding out on me. Counted stores: Main Tree 206 ? Nest tree: 175 } 38! 31 August Still have some old acorns, at least in the nest tree. 5 September 1520. Watching from hide. 1610. Hmm. Dull indeed. Going out to walk around briefly and to check acorns. Stores: 66, all in the Sycamore nest tree. Main storage tree appears empty; they have not run entirely out, however. 1635. A ♀ (probably ♂275) landed briefly in the perch tree down by the road with a large Black Oak acorn. habiting Several birds are forage next to the road in the field NW of the nest tree, but they are all being quite wary, and I don't see any point in pushing it when storing season is so close. 1650. Leaving. 15 September 1615. (1)♂ PRW#183 and (2)♂ DBLW#222 + others up in perch tree down past the nest tree on SW side of road. Watching storage tree again. 1645. Humbug. 1730. Worthless. This is the pits. Wait until storing is on! 10 October 1605. Watching. Earlier I saw (1)♀ or-lad#69 in the nest tree.
