1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co, Calif. (4 July) with these birds. By the revolution territory. I saw 2 wingstreamered birds - neither of whom could be identified for sure (one was L&RW (#316 or #339)); just up over the top above the revolution territory (going down into the saddle on the SW side) was another wing-streamered bird: L&RW-#330, plus another bird. 22 July 1030. Just 75m or so further along the dirt road from Gazebo is another group with 3-5 (minimum) adults & and at least 2 babies. At Gazebo itself I flushed one bird but was unable to pin anyone down. 25 July 1030. In that tall Valley Oak on the Lambert Group side of "Near Lambert" are 2 unbanded babies, origin not clear but who would seem to be from Near Lambert itself. 1040. One is now sap-sucking in a Live Oak below the tree. 1045. No adults seem to be forthcoming. In any case, they certainly do not belong at Lambert. 30 July 800. An AW was right behind Red House, possibly attracted by water and/or the captive in the back porch. Lots of AW (12+) seen by Pam Williams at the Spring this morning - inc. birds from Black Oak, Al, Big Tree, Keep Out, Lambert, plus lots of unbanded birds, 1 of whom was captured (a juv!) as #418. 5 August #418 caught by Pam at the spring again, along with #410 from Black Oak. 29 August #410 caught by Pam at the spring. 30 August #410 and #417 (along with a ub?) seen by Pam at the spring.
