Melanerpes formicivorus
Road 1
(5 April)
1520. ♀69 in perch tree by the road with ♂294 and
⑫♀ w/ Red-ca #213, here after all. ♀295 just came to
main granary. ♂222 here also.
1530. There is still a lot of calling down somewhere
in the vicinity of the creek.
1545. Things still happening, but not here. Going off.
1700. Taking down nets. Birds are mostly over up the
side of Poison Oak Hill where there's still some sun.
Plurge: ♀77. Last seen 25 September 1976,
gone by 17 November (when I put up the captive);
Disappeared about 20 October 1976 ± 1 month.
6 April
830. One chase seen soon after arriving, but there
seems to be little or no activity away from the storage area.
So far I've heard more calling over at Finch.
837. Another brief chase: 6 or so vs. 1 (5 of the 6 appeared
spontaneously out of nowhere).
838. ♀295 sitting in granary with → ⚫♀YLW#354, who
was not chased. Maybe she is the resident adult (hope hope!)
841. ♂294 and ♂222 in granary; also ♂w/r-ca #293.
848. ♀354 back peacefully in granary with 3-4 others
including ♂83. I think you can safely replace the
unbanded ♀ with this bird (♀354)
855. Though the action is certainly non-negligible here,
more calling (garricks, waleas, etc) seem to be coming from
Finch right now, where I'm going to check now.
856. ♂80 here; ♀354 still in main tree with every-
one else.
