4 April 940. 2 birds hawking in main tree: 9? wh/m #260 and
[illegible] #44. Things seem pretty calm here; all the action
is clearly over at 1500.
950. Leaving.
1600. Birds up in sap area.
Counted stores: Nest tree: 93
Main tree: 275 } 368
23 April 1100. ♀ in Main tree; 2nd bird (presumed ♂) flushed from the
hole area of the nest tree as I approached; I presume a
nest is being started there.
27 April 915. Bird flushed (apparently out of one of the holes again) from
the nest tree as I approached.
1000. ♂ in the '76 nest hole (or perhaps one just below it?)
30 April Bird seen in '76 nest hole twice today - they certainly have
things started here.
4 May 1110. Noone in hole, but I'd just heard some greeting and a
noise like an intruder getting chased.
1500. Went up to the hole, where a bird had flushed. Unexpectedly,
I was confronted with the rasps of very young nestlings
for the hole! (I didn't open the hole due to the problems
attending the wood of this hole, but there were certainly ≥2,
in any case).
9 May 1530. Watched as the ♂ landed in the nest tree, then popped
into the nest, coming out only when I walked over 10 minutes
later. ♂ Standing below the tree I couldn't hear any
