1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 1500 Hastings Reservation (12 April) 1337. ♀6 and ♀OrLW#349 now in tree 1. 1340. Leaving. Apparently the ♀ position is not clearly taken by #348 yet. As for the ♂88, I saw no trace of #88 and 95, and even though I didn't get great looks at males, I'm fairly concerned that they may indeed be gone. I should return later with the hide. 15 April 1030. Still a fair amount of activity here. 1031. (1) ♀OrLW#326 here still. [♀ see /act- ] Hawking. 1035. (2) ♂Rd/4th#88 and (3) ♀DBRW#348. ♂#88 would seem pretty certain; there are no School Hill birds near that combination. 1040. Nobody seems to be being chased here, but there's still a lot of greeting. 1045. (4) ♂YLM#194 hawking in tree 1. 1105. (5) ♂ La-Da/m #298 from School Hill here again poking around unmolested in the granary. 1107. ♀348 at the roost hole - some interest being shown here 1115. Leaving. Things are fairly quiet here, if not entirely settled. My guess is that ♀#348 and 326 may very well be here for good. 20 April See Y notes for 1500/School Hill birds there. 23 April 1015. There are several birds here, despite the fact that 3-4 of the birds that had been hanging out over here are still at Y. 1025. 2♂88 (plus a 3rd bird briefly) atop Tree 3, inc ♂DBRW#296 1030. 1 of these birds just flew up and out over toward the knoll. 1045. ♀DBRW#348 up here also.
