1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus 6 1500 Hastings Reservation (20 March) 1542. 8'95 just flew to tree 2 from over or by the creek. 1605. Still all quiet. 1710. All still dead quiet; nobody in nets. Watching again. Take it back. Now going to take down nets. Purge: $260 First seen at (1800) on 4 January, last seen here at (1500) on 28 January, :: Moved to Watched group at 16 Jan ± 1 week. I must comment on the unprecedented action here of an established F leaving her group for apparently no clear reason to move next door. Very interesting. 21 March 1025. Watching. Several birds here but no undue fighting. ① 8RRW #195 in lower Sapside. 1028. ② 8DBRW #348 flew to tree 3. 1040. 8348 now hawking in LSS. No chasing or other improper behavior. ③ 8m, (presumably #88) hawking in tree 1. 1050. ③ 8 La-Da/La-Y #298 (School Hill (?) bird.) 1100. All seems pretty well settled, presumably with 8348 staying. Obviously it will be a few days before I can say that for sure, however. 2 April 4 April 1710-1735. Nobody could be found here. I'm not convinced: see below. 815. 8348 hawking atop tree 1. 820. A bird getting chased; both ② 88 194 and ④ 95 here. ③ 888 (M?Red) The intruder chased off by at least 2 birds, also here- 825. One intruder in lower sapside hawking is ③ 30RRW #307 a first-year bird from Lower Haystack. 832 There are several too many birds here and several chases are taking place. At least 2-3 89 are among them.
