1977 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Y Hastings Reservation (17 October) nest hole) catching 5 birds: 33261,322, and 364, j8415, and the new unbanded ♀, now #425. All were wing- streamered and dealt with according to their needs. This leaves some doubt as to the fate of j414, seen on 8 October - however when I released the birds (about 845) one bird was definitely around the lower barn who may have been j414. I can't imagine why she's boosting by herself, however (I definitely got all the birds, for once). 25 October 1600. Seen in passing here were 3322, 3364, 9414, 8415, and 9425 9414 is a ♀, and is still here! Well - 3261 here also. 12 November Saw everybody while watching these birds storing acorns in front of the barn: all 6. 20 November 1110. 9414 up behind the barn. 26 November 1430. 3322 + several others flying to the Live Oaks by the bridge to pick acorns. 27 November 1250. 8yrw#364 and 8myda #322 in front of barn. Watching. 1255. 9dbcu#414 and 9jwhu#415. 9pchlw#425, 9borlw#261. 1310. That's the lot. All here storing away. 24 December 9414 (DBRW) was right up at the Red House this morning for a few minutes, attracted in part possibly by the captive calling from the porch. 9414 was seen several hours later down at Y with some other birds 26 December 1300. 9414 and 8415 by '75 nest tree examining a recently broken limb.
