Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus MacRoberts Hastings Reservation (8 October) as 15 April, but the lack of life here throughout the summer leads me to add the 2 new birds as having moved here between 28 August, when I had yet to see anyone, and 21 Sept: both 8615 and 8616 Founded as adults about 9 September 1977. 16 October 1500. Net up here. N.C. by dark. 6 November 1 Gird flushed from area this afternoon. Still stores here. 12 November 900. Net up. 1300. ! Caught one-adult ♀, now #431! 1715. Net down. 26 November 1050. Watching from hide. There are a fair amount of acorns here. 1053. 3 (?) birds flew by, inc. ? m/DB-WN(M) #431. 1116. ♂♂. The birds are really uppity today. 1123. ♂♂ still sitting in the area. 1210. The ♂ has been here at least 2 more times. The ♀ is being difficult. 1220. leaving - only got the early look at the banded bird in a way which didn't convince me that she lives here, though she probably does - 27 November 1130. Here to try for the ♀ again. 1240. 3 birds in a brief, quick chase in the left tree - one was #431. I guess this proves that she lives here, though I still haven't had a good look at here in the granary. Birds have a goodly number or stores here (several hundred at least) 13 December 1500.
