1976 Walter D. Koenig Melanerpes formicivorus Bianca (8 June) 1341. ♂R/W fed. 1405. ♂140 Ms B. came and fed. Got some good pictures. 1410. Erupted the kids, getting a Malacosoma and a large beetle from one of them, nothing from the others. 1425. Back in hide. 1525. Babies finally fed by a ♂. 1530. ♂R/W #142 fed. 1531. ♂R/W fed again. 1534. An intruder seems to be getting chased from the storage area. 1535. Two loud Garricks given from by the creek bed. ♀RRR#251 sitting in Black Oak near nest tree. 1540. Erupted the kids, who yielded one good acorn bit and a bunch of junk. Fed them, returned them, and left. 10 June 1830. Noises still coming from the nest. 14 June 1745. Noises " " " " 12 June 1745. Banded and bled the 4 kids, who are #3 302 to 305. Saw ♂ Ms. Bianca across the way. 24 June 730. Heard noises from the nest tree like youngish nestlings (?) but they stopped when I approached. 740. Watching from the hide. 750. (1)♂?u6 hawking in nest area. (2)♂Or/W#214 hawking down a ways in another perch tree. (3)♂R/W #142 coming to feed babies with insects. 810. Babies fed insects by a ♂, not (2) or (3). 812.(♀?)#251 with insects in her bill here now. 820.(♀?yul-Or/-) #141 in area. 835. Kids fed at least twice. Hastings Reservation numbers seen on n bauts.
