1976 Walter D. Kaenig 15 Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold 3 Hastings Reservation (16 July) 835. Several in granary now eating acorns, inc. (1) 808/M #123. 900. An unringed ♀, sitting in the perch tree above the granary since 850 or so, was displaced by ♂128. 107. Finally (1) j290 showed up with several others. Was fed by ♂126. 940. leaving. ♂255 is gone (or at least hiding pretty successfully). 18 July j286 (Maud/M) at Arnold Spring at 1130. Also ♂ DB/w ♀ #123. Also ♂ Br/M #122, whose leg is bad. And j290. And ♂RRR#205. 20 July Some A3 birds at Spring again: see Journal. 1030. Birds all over here: ♂209 seen first in the area near the nest tree with 2 others and then in the storage tree alone. Counted stores: N Fork 1132 M Fork 1169 S Fork 956 } 3257 1 August 930. Possibly found a major sap-sucking area over on Lambert's, just up from KeepOut. ♂?rd -, conceivably ♂255, seen here along with lots of others who flushed mostly towards A3. 945. ♂114 (Lambert) chased from here by an unringed ♂ 950. Birds (2) are (also?) harvesting and eating Black Oak green acorns from a tree here. 11 August Purge: ♂255, last seen 22 April, gone by 15 July; Disappeared about 3 June 1976 ± 1 month. 19 August See UA2 notes for A3 birds over there.
